Symphony of Abstraction

There is an inherent beauty and structure in music that allows music to have harmonious, rich sound affecting the mood and psyche of a person. Music composition utilizes a series of theories and techniques to write music that is similar to how an artist utilizes artistic techniques and methods to create an art piece. “Symphony of Abstraction” features artworks by Myer Kim that depicts a series of drawings that illustrate the complexity, tension, and beauty of music and how the notation of a music composition can be used to create unique artistic and design forms.

Symphony No. 1 The Duality Page 1 – 2
This symphony is a combination of taking pieces from Shostakovich, Mozart, and Camille Saint-Saëns and breaking them down into two forms: linear and curve. The music notes are overlayed on top of each other to develop a study and an understanding of the application of music into creating an architecture language. Here, this symphony attempts to combine multiple ideas and design methodologies used in architecture and combine it with the composition of music to develop a cohesive piece and symphony of architecture and music.
